“Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially.  At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.”- Jawaharlal Nehru the first prime minister of India said on that very night when India finally freed itself from the clutches of the British Empire.

History of India Independence Day

After 200 years of slavery and oppression under the British empire, India finally got its independence on the 15th of August 1947. The British colonizers first took over the country in 1757, the East India Company fought and annexed local kingdoms and established themselves as the dominant force by the 18th century. It took a lot of effort and sacrifices from the freedom fighter and great people such as; Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rani Lakshmi Bai, and many more to be free from the clutches of the British rule.

How to celebrate India National Day?

Every year on the 15th of August, Indians from all corners of the country sing their national anthem. Followed by flag-raising ceremonies and Drills all over the country. Tri-colored kites swarm the skies reminding the sacrifices and the struggles to get their freedom. At the Red Fort, the prime minister hoists the Indian flag, He delivers a speech to the whole nation about the achievements and how proud they must be., A .parade full of members of the  Army and police occurs. As people of all ages dress for the occasion getting ready for the next goal.

Money can’t buy freedom, countless sacrifices and hardships got them their country. This country was slaved for over 200 years of the people’s rights and happiness in their own land. They couldn’t allow themselves to be used and tortured in their home country and with great determination and struggle, they finally got their freedom. The people of India celebrate their independence with color and pride.
