Raksha Bandhan is a prominent and ancient annual Hindu rite or ceremony celebrated during the Hindu lunar calendar month Shravana (typically August) across the Indian Subcontinent. It is also heavily influenced by Hindu culture elsewhere. On this day, sisters of all ages tie a talisman or amulet called rakhi on the wrists of their brothers.
