Cappuccino Day 2023 Date

In the United States, National Cappuccino Day falls on November 8th, which is celebrated by millions by enjoying a combination of espresso and milk foam. Although the real inventor of National Cappuccino Day is yet to be known, however, this is a great vacation to consider and coffee lovers are glad to have it.

This year the day falls on Tuesday, November 8 and in 2023 the day will be celebrated on Wednesday.

History of National Cappuccino Day

Cappuccino has a complicated and controversial history due to a lack of records, however, the common consensus is that cappuccino comes from the "kapuziner". Kapuziner was a milk and espresso drink available in Viennese cafes, but the first “real” cappuccino originated in Italy in the early 1900s.

The first versions of the Cappuccino were recorded during the Battle of Vienna. However, there is a popular saying that a friar named Marco da Aviano created a kapuziner-like drink in the late 1600s, but due to no written documents of this story and it remains a legend.

According to the legend, Marco da Aviano was sent by the Pope to Vienna in 1683 as father D'Aviano couldn't drink black coffee; so he wanted to sweeten things up. Therefore, a mixture of cream, coffee, and sugar christened "cappuccino" were added to the color of Capuchin monks' robes. This way, a drink called a “kapuziner” first appeared in Austria in Viennese cafes in the 1700s. As you know today, true cappuccino made its victorious entry into Italy in the early 1900s, and it wasn’t until 1901 that espresso machines proliferated.

In the United States, cappuccino is somewhat of a recent “trend”. Nevertheless, in New York City, Greenwich Village’s famed and beloved Caffe Reggio boasts that it served cappuccino in 1927 for the first time in the United States.

What is Cappuccino?

The word "cappuccino" came from the Italian word "cappuccio", which refers to a hood or hat. A cappuccino is an espresso drink that has steamed milk, milk foam, and a dash of cocoa powder on top. When it comes to espresso, every detail matters because the arrangement of the ingredients changes the type of drink. For example, some drinks use the same ingredients but in different proportions, such as macchiato. The cappuccino is poured in the order of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam, which are equally available. A little cocoa powder should do the trick for a sweet and spicy note.

Where was cappuccino invented?

Cappuccinos began in Viennese cafes in 1805 but there are unconfirmed reports that the first cappuccino was created in the 17th century by an Italian monk after the Battle of Vienna which took place in 1683.

How to make a perfect cappuccino?

Based on the traditional Italian recipe, cappuccino is a delicious and perfect blend of espresso, hot milk, evaporated (creamy) frothy milk, and sugar. According to the cappuccino specialists, there is no definite recipe, but a cappuccino should always be made with 2/3 milk (and 1/3 of that froth) and 1/3 coffee. A perfect cappuccino requires more fresh milk and high-quality coffee.

No doubt, creamy foam is an essential element of a flawless cappuccino. When milk is steamed, a foam is created by air bubbles entering the milk. This procedure provides the milk with a distinctive velvety texture. Although few baristas use cream instead of milk, in Italy, real cappuccino is made strictly with milk.
