On this day, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and then crashed into the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York. They crashed another into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., the fourth one was carried out in a rural area of Pennsylvania as passengers bravely resisted the hijackers. 

Approximately 3 thousand people were killed in these devastating attacks, written as one of the deadliest events in U.S. history. These attacks resulted in violation of U.S. policies, significant changes, major security issues as well and the launch of the global War on Terror. Patriot Day was created in order to pay homage to the victims, survivors, and first responders who displayed mighty courage and sacrifice in times of crisis.
