Navratri or Navaratri, also known as Adi Parashakti, is a Hindu festival celebrated annually honoring goddess Durga. The festival takes place for nine nights and ten days and falls twice yearly. First, Chaitra (Gregorian: March/April), and later Ashwin (September/October). It has different meanings and is emphasized differently in different parts of the Indian Hindu cultural sphere. The tenth day of Navaratri comes to an end in earnest, known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra.

Navaratri is a pious occasion that goes for nine consecutive nights and is celebrated by Hindus twice a year: once in March/April which is called Chaitra Navratri and the other in September/October which is called Sharad Navratri. The term ‘Navratri’ derives from a couple of Sanskrit words – "Nav" meaning nine, and "Ratri" meaning night. In 2023, Sharad Navratri will be observed from Sunday, October 15 to October 24, 2023.
